A GENERALIST WITH A PARTICULAR POINT OF VIEW.

A few things
I couldn’t
leave alone.

I’m Arvin. I design, build, and follow my curiosity a little further than strictly necessary.

Let’s have a look

yes, I built
these too.

Expertise,
with a new address.

I redesigned Enduvo’s website: a new home for a platform built around human expertise.

02 / Website redesign

A little movement.
A clearer story.

Scroll-led moments bring the product into focus, one idea at a time.

03 / Website redesign

The whole thing
has to hang together.

Type, pacing, product, and the path through it all. I like working across the whole picture.

Go on.
Take it apart.

I designed and built Embed3D, a tool for creating interactive 3D lessons.

02 / Designed & built

Some things make
more sense in 3D.

Turn the model. Slice into it. Find the part you need to understand.

03 / Designed & built

And then,
put it anywhere.

Bring the lesson into a website or learning platform. A complicated object, made approachable.

01 / Places & people

You know
a place.

The places I want to go tend to come from people whose taste I trust.

02 / Places & people

Now you know
where you put it.

Cerca gives those recommendations a home. Search the collection and open a place.

03 / Places & people

Taste is personal.
So is the map.

A place is more useful when you know who saved it. Explore my actual collection.

01 / Stories & software

What if a book
could become a comic?

A question that became Illustrative: software for turning stories into illustrated books.

02 / Stories & software

Page by page.
Panel by panel.

Characters, compositions, and words have to hold together across a whole story.

03 / Stories & software

The output
is the fun part.

A finished book you can read, share, and export. An idea becomes something you can hold onto.

My eyes would
like a break.

Murmur reads text aloud from the apps you’re already using.

02 / A small Mac utility

A shortcut.
Then, a voice.

A small menu bar app, close at hand. Press ⌘⇧L and listen.

03 / A small Mac utility

I like small
solutions.

Especially the kind that fit into an existing habit. This one lives quietly in the menu bar.

01 / Charts & evidence

A chart can
travel light.

Tufte makes portable charts for places where text already works.

02 / Charts & evidence

Same rows.
Another way to see.

Change the chart, keep the data. Simple marks can carry a lot of meaning.

03 / Charts & evidence

And you should
be able to check it.

Supporting evidence belongs with the chart. Clarity includes knowing where the numbers came from.

Plot twist.
I made this part too.

The videos on this page move with a JavaScript plugin I built.

02 / The tool behind this page

You scroll.
Time follows.

Forward, backward, or right to that one frame. The page stays in your hands.

03 / The tool behind this page

A small tool.
A lot of possibilities.

Use it for your own idea. The source is open, and the scrolling is still just scrolling.

A little about me ↓

THE PERSON ATTACHED TO ALL THIS

Serious about
the work.
Playful about
the rest.

I like the moment a complicated thing becomes a simple one.

I take cues from rooms, buildings, and the shape of letters. I ask a lot of questions. Sometimes the answer turns into an app.

I’ve been making things with software since the Dreamweaver and AOL days. I still get the same kick out of making something work.

Sometimes, the useful thing
is a better question.
